(The Northwest Naturopathic Clinic has other specialized services including group fasting programs and classic homeopathy. For any information about our services, please contact Pat or Susan at 503-224-8083) Naturopathic doctors are state-licensed physicians, skilled in diagnosis and holistic medical care. They are trained to interpret orthodox diagnostic procedures such as x-ray, ultrasound, cultures and blood chemistries. They are also trained in diagnosis specific to homeopathy, Chinese and naturopathic systems. To be licensed as a naturopathic physician in Oregon, it is necessary to complete a 4-year graduate program in naturopathic medicine. Acceptance into naturopathic graduate programs requires 3-4 years of pre-med education. After receiving an N.D. degree (doctor of naturopathic medicine), the graduate must pass national science exams and clinical exams administered by the Oregon Board of Naturopathic Examiners (OBNE). This governor appointed state board is responsible for licensing new doctors and regulating the profession. Physicians licensed in Oregon must annually upgrade their knowledge and skills by taking continuing education courses approved by the OBNE.
